This year, more than 180,000 women in the United States will learn for the first time that they have breast cancer, and more than 40,000 women will lose their lives becaues of it. alpha Kappa Delta Phi proudly promotes our national philanthropy, Breast Cancer Awareness, a project that is dedicated to fundraising towards and increasing public knowledge about the early detection of breast cancer, the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women. Last year in 2016, we raised almost $100,000 as a nation towards this cause. Last year alone, the sisters at the University of Houston
raised $10,000 for the Breast Cancer Awareness, which is the highest amount donated from all chapters nationwide! Through service projects, work shops, informational booths, forums, and events, we hope to help educate our community and make a difference. We are proud exclusive partners of Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.
We are passionate in finding new ways to fundraise and raise awareness for breast cancer. In the Fall semester of 2012, our chapter at the University of Houston partnered with the Tau chapter of Sigma Beta Rho Fraternity to host our very first annual Code: Pink 5k Costume Run on campus, with all proceeds towards the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade. In addition to that, during the Spring semester of 2015, we hosted our first ever aKDPhi-ght Against Breast Cancer Volleyball Tournament. And finally, in the Fall semester of 2016, we hosted our first ever Mr.Pink Male Pageant! With service as one of our pillars, we are often finding ways to volunteer and give back to the community. Like Gandhi said, "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others."
Thank you to all of our past sponsors for supporting the causes, and a big thank you to the sponsors who continue to do so! We could have not done it without you! If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for our philanthropic events or you would like to volunteer, please contact us and a representative will get back to you shortly.
